In a heartfelt statement released on April 2, 2025, rock band Godsmack confirmed the departure of two of its core members: guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin. The duo expressed a desire to step away from the rigors of touring to embrace a more tranquil lifestyle.
“After almost 3 incredible decades, two of our most cherished members, Tony Rombola and Shannon Larkin, have decided to retire from the band permanently, on good terms, but for no other reason than to fulfill their desire to live a more simple and quiet life away from touring,” the band’s statement read.
Fans first noticed the lineup change during Godsmack’s 2025 European tour kickoff in Sofia, Bulgaria. Frontman Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill were joined by drummer Will Hunt of Evanescence and guitarist Sam Bam Koltun, known for his work with Dorothy and Faster Pussycat.
Larkin elaborated on their decision in a since-deleted Facebook video, noting, “We did quit the band last year after lots of talking to Sully and Robbie and they understood that we didn’t want to tour anymore.” He emphasized the amicable nature of their departure, stating, “It’s all love. We’re brothers for life with Sully and Robbie and we wish Will and Sam all the best.”
While Rombola and Larkin embark on new personal journeys, Godsmack continues to tour, honoring the legacy built over nearly three decades.
