2025 is off to a devastating start in the Big Easy as a vehicle drove through crowds of people on Bourbon Street around 3:15 New Year’s morning, killing 10 and injuring at least 35, according to police reports.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl, a Collge Football Playoff quarterfinal between Georgia and Notre Dame, has been postponed until Thursday due to the events.

Currently, there are road closures throughout the French Quarter, spanning eight blocks of Bourbon St and even some pieces of Canal Street. People are advised to avoid the area while the investigation takes place.

Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released the following statement after the tragedy: “The Sugar Bowl Committee is devastated by the terrible events from early this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
