Summer weather is here! Getting outside to enjoy the summer sun is beneficial to our physical and mental health. The sun is a source of Vitamin D. It also aids in the production of mood-elevating serotonin. We’re already experiencing temperatures in the 90’s. When you’re outside, it’s a good idea to wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. A wide-brimmed hat is also a good idea. Hydration is critically important. If you have access to a pool, use it.

Inside the house, you can do obvious things like running the AC. Fans also help. Moving air isn’t necessarily cooler, but it feels that way. If you’re perspiring, moving air dries it quicker. Evaporation is a cooling process. If your home is more than one story, try to stay downstairs during the day. It’s a good idea to close off rooms while they’re not in use. Blackout curtains help reduce the heat entering through window panes.

Eating smaller, more frequent meals is also recommended. Cooking outside is a good idea, too. Enjoy your summer!
