1808: Businessman John Jacob Astor incorporates the American Fur Company.

1830: Joseph Smith and five others officially organize the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayette, New York.

1859: United States recognizes the Liberal government in Mexico’s War of Reform.

1862: Battle of Shiloh where the Union defeats the Confederacy near Pittsburg Landing in Tennessee.

1865: Battle of Sayler’s Creek, fought near Farmville in the state of Virginia has 1/4 of General Robert E. Lee’s army cut off and leads to Union victory, United States Civil War.

1906: World’s first animated cartoon is released, “Humorous Phases of Funny Faces” by J. Stuart Blackton.

1950: John Foster Dulles becomes advisor to United States Secretary of State Acheson.

1973: America launches the Pioneer 11, Pioneer G, probe to study Jupiter & Saturn.

1992: United States Supreme Court rules a Nebraska farmer was entrapped by postal agents into buying mail-order child pornography.

2016: In the United States primary elections the state of Wisconsin won by Democrat Bernie Sanders and Republican Ted Cruz.

2020: United States COVID-19 death toll passes 10,000 in six weeks, with more than 356,000 American infected and New York death toll reaches 4,758.

2021: Jeff Bezos, worth $177 billion, tops Forbes Billionaires list of 2,755 people, including new entry Kim Kardashian.
