Sandbags available ahead of heavy rains

Posted by mattmiguez on July 8, 2024 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Local News, Storm Blog, What's Hot, What's New

With the heavy rainfall that is expected in Acadiana this week, flooding is a concern. Therefore, residents in Lafayette and St Landry Parish have the opportunity to get sandbags.

Sandbags are available at the following locations from our friends at KADN News15:

ST. LANDRY PARISH:

  • St. Landry Parish Government is issuing sandbags at the Yambilee Building (1939 West Landry Street, Opelousas) until 4:30 p.m. as the parish anticipates heavy rainfall this week from the remnants of Beryl.

LAFAYETTE PARISH:

  • As rain bands associated with Hurricane Beryl spread over the region Monday and Tuesday, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) reminds residents that sandbags are available in Lafayette Parish. All locations are self-bagging, and residents must bring their own shovels and manpower. Sandbag locations remain accessible 24 hours a day, but recommended usage is advised within daylight hours (currently between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.).
  • Sandbag Locations:
    • North District site at 400 Dugas Road (located off North University Avenue)
    • Picard Park at 130 Park Lane
  • Bags Per Household:
    • Please limit sandbags to four bags per exterior door.
    • Maximum of 20 sandbags per household permitted.
