Air travel used to be fun & exciting. These days, it seems like a troublesome means to an end. Customer service has deteriorated. space is increasingly cramped, and airport security is a pain. Over the years, I’ve cultivated the habit of wearing slip on shoes & no belt. Then, there’s the “pleasure” of additional screening. People are sometimes selected randomly, but not always. You may be selected in advance. If that’s the case, there will be the code “SSSS” on your boarding pass. It stands for Secondary Security Screening Selection. Sometimes, it’s random, but several factors can trigger this additional inconvenience. Among them are buying a one way ticket, paying cash, booking at the last minute, or traveling to a “high risk” country. If you see the code “SSSS” on your boarding pass, give yourself some extra time, because you’re going to be delayed.
