Most of us know online purchase scams are the most dangerous. Job offer scams have climbed to number 2 on the list. KLFY reports the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana has received numerous complaints about this type of scam. Here’s what makes it tough to detect. Scammers will post fake job listings on reputable websites like Indeed.

BBB advises us of things to look for. One ruse is sending you a text, indicating you’ve applied for a position, and the text contains a link to click, and schedule an interview. They’re usually after your personal information. They’ll tell you the job is yours and request your bank information, purportedly for direct deposit.

Another angle is sending a worthless check for you to deposit, then purchase office equipment. The office equipment doesn’t show up, and you don’t get reimbursed. BBB recommends researching the company, and not providing your personal information. Remember, If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
